Count how many step it takes you to cover exactly 100 meters. Each time you reach 100 steps when walking slide 1 bead up the cord until you have used all 9 and then on the 10th set of 100 meters slide 1 bead up on the other set, this then shows you have covered a distance of 1000 meters / 1 Kilometer.
